Ella's hat

So I attempted to make Ella a hat without a pattern and it came out too big. Not way to big but a little loose on Cassie, so I know it will be too big on Ella. So back to the beginning. I used the formula were you took the circumference of the head and divided it by pi (3.14) to get the radius which was just a little over six inches.  I kept increasing til I got to 54 because this was just a tad over six inches. So for the next hat I am going to stop at 48 and maybe increase only a couple if needed.

For the hat that is too big, I will be giving it to a co-worker's daughter, Kayla.   I used super bulky Lion Brand Lion Suede.

My gauge is 4 inch square is 12 rows of 9sc.
  1. Sc 6 stitches in magic ring-6
  2. 2 sc in each sc=12
  3. *2sc, sc* around-18
  4. *2sc, sc, sc* around-24
  5. *2sc, sc, sc, sc* around -30
  6. *2sc, sc, sc, sc, sc* around-36
  7. *2sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc* around -42
  8. *2sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc* around -48
  9. *2sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc* around -54
  10. Sc in each sc continue til hat is desired length.

Catching up

I did not do anything for Newborns in Need.  Not that I don't want to, I just have not done anything. I used to get  newsletters every month, I don't get that now.  I am going to make it a goal to at least make a couple of hats, and bereavement dresses to donate.

I didn't finish Donnie's pillowghan. I am almost done, got frustrated about the very last block and put it away.  Oh I need to finish it. Maybe a suprise for christmas. I must hurry though. LOL

I have made some more blankets and hats that I am going to post on here.  I will blog more. Even if I am the only one that reads my rambling.

Donnie's Wheel Stitch Block pillowghan

I am making Donnie a crochet "quillo" ( a pillow and quilt). There is going to be 12 different squares. This is one square. Four squares will be with the brown center and working alternating colors of brown purple and white. Four will be with purple centers and four will be with white centers worked in the same color pattern. I changed the colors a bit but the pattern is CrochetDad's Wheel Stitch Block, here is the tutorial http://crochetdad.blogspot.com/2009/08/crochetdads-wheel-stitch-block-tutorial.html.

It is a wonderful block and an awesome tutorial. I will post a picture of the finished blanket, I will probably change something along the way though, I always seem to do that.

Beautiful Purple and Pink Star Blanket

Here is the Purple and Pink star blanket. I only had enough to do a preemie size. I also did a car seat blanket a couple of months ago. I had not finished it. I found it amongst one of my "stashes" and finished it. I will be donating it with the star blanket but I am not sure which hospital just yet.

Carson's Blanket

I made Carson a beautiful white and blue star blanket. I was a litte intimidated by the pattern at first but the pattern repeats itself over and over just making changes for the more stitches. It was really fast and easy to make. I used two strands Bernat Baby Sport Yarn so it is soft but strong, not flimsy like you would get from single strand baby yarn. Of course Cassie wants one too. I think I am going to make her a purple one. I have started on that I am going to donate to a hospital, I only have enough yarn for a preemie size. It is Bernat Baby Sweet Stripes in pink and purple. I will post a picture as soon as I finish it.
